Chitravina N Ravikiran

Young Narasimhan being honored by the former Prime Minister of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri

In a world where 'prodigy' and 'genuis' are the much-bandied words, Ravikiran is one of those rare Carnatic musicians on whom both words can be applied without exaggeration. He is an inspiring example of what great heights can be reached when one's natural gifts are properly moulded and worked upon.

Ravikiran's inborn inclination for music was noticed and nurtured by his parents Choodamani and Narasimhan when he was barely a toddler. He was presented to the world as a raga-identifying prodigy when he was merely 2 1/2-years old to great acclaim. The promise of the prodigy was kept with constant, yet phenomenal progress when Ravikiran went on to become a full-fledged concert vocalist at the age of 5, and later, an exponent of Chitravina by age 8.
